Vehicle Description
1992 Porsche 964 Carrera Cup with a significant race history: The 964 Carrera Cup was produced in limited numbers for the European Supercup series, which ran before the Formula One races. The 1992 models received significant upgrades from the earlier models, including 18 inch Magnesium wheels, a power bump to 275hp, and the car now used the 964 Carrera RS body and sat an additional 20mm lower. This particular car was originally a Porsche VIP car, and was delivered on May 14, 1993. It was raced six days later by Mika Hakkinen at the Monaco circuit preceding the Monaco GP. At the time, he had never driven a 911 before, and he got in this car, took pole in qualifying, and won the race overall. He also ran this car at Budapest, also for a first place finish. The car includes copies of the Wagenpass showing all of its races, including Hockenheim, SPA, Nurburgring, Mugello, and more. This is THE car which many other cars copy with their livery. After its racing season, it was purchased by a Porsche executive who drove the car to work on a regular basis. The current owner purchased the car in 2002 through Willy Brombacher, who sourced the car from the same executive. It had been restored one time in Germany by FVD Brombacher but it was not restored to stock. The first restoration included many modifications, giving the car 320HP - about 50 HP over stock. In the fall of 2007, Fran had the car redone again. The work was done at Advantage Auto by Tom Florio with the help of Jeffery Ring and Joel Reiser. To return the car back to original, certified stock condition, everything had to be changed. The search was on for an original ’92 cup suspension. Out came the six speed transmission; back in went a proper 5 speed. The original engine threw a rod during a race, so a new case was sourced and built to stock specifications, and stamped with the same number to that the owner could continue to run in historic events. The car was now in showroom condition for a ’92 911 Cup Car. Also part of the stock restoration was retuning it to the original paint and Tag Heuer graphics from when Mika raced it. The only departure from original condition at present is the fuel cell in the front trunk and the front hood; the original hood with the underhood VIN and option sticker is included, as well as the original fuel tank.
