This Shelby GT350 was bought in September 2013 by Fred Piluso, a retired nightclub owner and serial Shelby collector. Shortly after purchasing the car Fred had it sent to Craig Conley at Paradise Wheels in San Marcos, California. Craig is known for his expertise in 1965-1970 Ford Mustangs and performed an extensive amount of work on this GT350. The car was fitted with a rebuilt date-code-correct Paxton Supercharged 289 Hi Po four-bolt main V8. The transmission was also rebuilt and was installed with a Centerforce clutch, aluminum flywheel, and Hurst shift linkage bolted to the factory Ford T handle. The car was also updated with a Pertronix ignition.

The Panoz AIV Roadster is an all-american lightweight roadster with European roots. The Panoz family purchased the rights to a defunct sportscar manufacturer in the late 1980s, and after much retooling and essentially a start-from-scratch redesign, the Panoz Roadster was born. The first iteration was stainless steel and utilized a 5.0L Ford V8 and did not come with any top, radio, heater, or air conditioning. In 1996, the AIV, which stands for Aluminum Intensive Vehicle, was born. It used largely the same styling as the first-gen roadster, but the car was now 70% aluminum, weighing in at only 2500 pounds, and a new 4.6L 32-valve aluminum V8 from the Mustang Cobra was shoehorned in, bumping the power up to 305bhp. Additionally, they created a surprisingly easy-to-install top with side curtain windows, plus luxury amenities like a radio, heat, and air conditioning. They were hand assembled in Braselton, Georgia, and to this day remain as one of the most unique American cars ever produced. A total of 176 AIV Roadsters were sold to the public during the 3.5-year production run. Unlike most limited production hand-built sports cars, these are actually incredibly reliable, simple to maintain, and are very pleasant to drive. Parts are easy to source given that it is mostly Ford components. Many critics of the Plymouth Prowler say that this is what the Prowler should have been.
This particular Roadster is finished in a gorgeous shade of Maroon metallic with black interior. The color is a deep, dark burgundy and almost looks purple depending on the light. According to our database, out of the 176 AIV Roadsters, only four were finished in this color and all of them were 1998s. There was another one listed as Maroon produced in 1999, but it is a very different shade with more of a copper/orange tint.
Owner's manual, two keys, fabric top, and Panoz leather storage case for the top components are all included with the sale. The top and top components are all in excellent shape and fit properly. It is original paint and has a clean Carfax and no stories. The car came out of long term storage, so we inspected the car fully and performed our usual service and refreshing. We mounted new Hankook Ventus V12 Evo2 tires, repaired the odometer, changed oil/filter, brake fluid flush, charged A/C system, replaced radiator and associated hoses, new idler pulley and serpentine belt, and new stainless brake lines. In addition, we removed the awful black "elephant ears" stone guards on the rear fenders and installed Xpel paint protection flim, which gives these cars a much cleaner and more modern look.
This is an incredibly rare and timeless car, and it is ready to be enjoyed by its new owner.
*SALE PENDING* This car is a great deal for somebody who wants a car to drive and isn't worried about a little bit of a story. The car was in a building which sustained tornado damage and the top-side body panels and glass were damaged. The car was declared a total loss by insurance (typically when repair costs exceed 75% of vehicle book value) but retained a clear title. The roof, front trunk, front fenders, rear wing, and all glass were replaced, and the rear fenders were repaired. Photos of the damage are available for interested parties.
The car has benefitted from a new clutch and complete major service including plugs and coils within the last two years. Additionally, we sent the car to Autowerks, a local Porsche specialist, for a checkover of any necessary items prior to sale. The car currently needs a 1st-gear synchro - see inspection notes on the PDF on our website for more details! This is a great opportunity for somebody who wants a more affordable driver, as no-story low mileage examples have crossed the six-figure mark.
Today we are offering a clean GT3 that's been driven as intended, serviced fastidiously, and ready to be enjoyed.
The car was sold new in October 2009 by Stevinson Imports, and was regularly serviced there until it was sold in 2011. It went through two wholesale auctions, which can sometimes be indicative of a "story" car, but really good cars can go through auctions as well just as a matter of dealer policy or when certain wholesalers buy them. This one was a good one that just happened to be wholesaled through auction. It was picked up by Byers Imports and given a full major service and sold to the second owner as a Porsche Certified Pre-Owned vehicle.
The buyer then performed a number of track-focused upgrades, but according to our knowledge never actually used it on the track. Switchcars acquired the car in late 2012 and sold it to the fourth owner with just under 22k miles.
He then traded it back in to Switchcars a year later, and it was subsequently sold with 23k miles to another VIP client in Las Vegas. The car didn't "wow" him, so he traded it back in and it was sold again by Switchcars to a client in Florida who also had a place in Las Vegas and maintained it with Premier Sportscar Service, one of the best Porsche race shops in the country.
He was actually the first owner in all that time to finally put it on a track, and he got a fair amount of track use out of the car. During his ownership he experienced a valvetrain issue, and P1 did a top-end refresh including camshaft actuators and bolts (a necessary upgrade anyway with a lightweight flywheel), head gasket, full reseal, valve guides, and more. They installed 4.0L cams while they were in there, as well as a 4.0L pressure plate and RS single-mass flywheel. The centerlock hubs and wheel carriers were also replaced and the coolant lines pinned. Essentially they upgraded and bulletproofed the car.
The owner put a few thousand more miles on the car and then decided to retire from track driving, and once again called Switchcars, who purchased and resold it in early 2020 with just under 38k miles after having an inspection performed at Autowerks. The car was still in excellent condition, thanks in part to a clearbra which had protected the primary impact areas and had been installed since 2012. The flaws noted in 2020 were a dented lower rocker from being improperly lifted, which was fixed by Pete's Custom Coachbuilding, and some discoloration in the REAR calipers. This occurs when the car is tracked with PSM on, as the stability management will pulse the rear brakes to assist the driver and put more heat into the rear brakes than a driver would on his own.
The most recent owner has tracked it four times, and has just completed an oil/filter change and installed new Pagid RS29 pads. The car is due for new tires but otherwise is solid and ready to rock. It has never been hit and is original paint other than the repaired rocker, and the DME is pretty clean with only range one and twos and an average speed around 42mph which is within normal range.
